ABOUT AL BETZ
Al Betz began his court reporting career in 1968 at the age of 19. His early career path took him from the Maryland Worker’s Compensation Commission to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. In 1977, Al transitioned into freelance court reporting, and today has a nationwide reputation as a real-time reporter, an author, and a leader in the court-reporting profession. As an author, he has interviewed and transcribed the stories of numerous subjects—including families of 9/11 victims—in an effort to preserve their loved ones’ life stories. Al loves to write, and serves as our lead blogger.
In 2015, Al agreed to establish and host an internet radio program for Texas-based Stenographers World. He has hosted the program ever since and has interviewed many court reporting luminaries from as distant locations as Hong Kong and the UK. Al Betz is a member of the National Court Reporters Assocation, DepoSpan, and the Maryland Court Reporters Association
