1. LEGIBLE LETTERS
Letters must be legible (large print) and handwritten. No worries if you’re not artistic– make your card as what you’d like to receive.
Many elders are in deep isolation.
In 2020, 7.7 million community-dwelling adults age 65 and older in the United States were socially isolated, and 1.3 million were severely socially isolated. More strikingly, 43% of Americans age 60 and older report feeling lonely, which is shown to increase risk of dementia, heart disease, stroke, and premature fatality from all causes.
You’re invited to join the Veritext effort to support and show love for the elderly community by creating an encouraging letter or video message to brighten someone’s day!
Write a sunny and uplifting letter or card!

1. LEGIBLE LETTERS
Letters must be legible (large print) and handwritten. No worries if you’re not artistic– make your card as what you’d like to receive.
2. KEEP IT TIMELESS
Exclude the date (day, month, and year). Do not reference COVID, isolation, or quarantine– focus your letter on making the recipient feel good.
3. KIND & THOUGHTFUL
Be kind & thoughtful. This is a one-way letter exchange, so you will not receive a letter back. Receiving nothing in return is part of the beauty of your act of kindness, and recipients aren’t burdened by feeling obligated or unable to respond.
4. A MESSAGE FOR ANYONE
Your letter should resonate with anyone. Avoid religion, if possible.
5. EMBRACE CREATIVITY
Embrace creativity! Recipients love it when the letters are personal. We encourage you to make your letters colorful and fun – photos, crosswords, uplifting poems and drawings are great!
6. ENVELOPE, PLEASE
Envelope your letters if you can! It’s so much nicer to receive an enveloped card. If you’re sending more than 1 letter, leave your enveloped letters unsealed and unstamped and send them in a larger envelope or box.
Record yourself reading your written letter!
Record a 30-60 second video message!
Suggestions: rapping, singing, dancing, playing an instrument, spoken word, juggling, comedy– anything, really!
