Veritext Presents 2024 Steno Scholarship to Edwina Roberts
Edwina Roberts has been awarded the Veritext Legal Solutions 2024 Steno Scholarship. This scholarship is offered through the “Maryland Community College System’s Court Reporter Training Program” and is given annually by Veritext to one student for their ability and merit in their courses.
Edwina has been very dedicated since entering the program and is committed to successfully completing it. Her goals are to become a freelance reporter traveling to different countries, open to working in the courts and/or congress, and bring awareness of the court reporting profession to women in her hometown of Nassau, Bahamas.
Brief personal history
“I grew up in a small town called Sandy Point, Abaco, in the Bahamas. Between the ages of five and seven my mom handed me a CD called ‘Mavis Beacon for Typing.’ She also taught me the home row keys and the fingertip placement. Under her instructions I learned to type the scripture Psalms 118: ‘This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.’ She told me once I master this group of words, I then have mastered the keyboard. Even though I was young, I took on the task and accomplished it very quickly. In my senior year of high school, I entered the business program because of my love and passion for typing. Upon graduation I passed the National Examination in typing.”
Career Goals
“My career goals are to become an aspiring Court Reporter in a Supreme court that allows me and the justice team to work together in order to achieve justice accurately, sufficiently and efficiently. I also want to freelance where I’m recognized around the world and do work in different countries. I also wish to work for Congress and also bring awareness to my country especially to women in my community informing them about this exciting and fun career.”
Veritext offers its congratulations to student Edwina Roberts!
